Directions US (Sorry, Soren NA) is a wrap and for what I can follow via Twitter it was a great show, even if you don’t like all the messaging (like me) Microsoft did a great job in NAV 2017 and Dynamics 365 looks very promising. That being said it’s time to focus on the next big event for Dynamics NAV. The NAVUG Summit in Tampa starting from October 9th (Pre Conference classes) to the 14th. A full week of Navision goodies. Eight beer samplers lined up on a table So, now to the question, if you want to buy me a beer, how to proceed. Where can you find this dude. Pre Conference Class On Sunday and Monday we have the pre-conference classes. This is “somewhere” in the Tampa Convention Center. On the evening between the two days I typically invite the attendees of my class to join me for steak and beer (not included in the attendance fee). Tuesday On tuesday morning we have to setup two booths. I am assisting ForNAV together with Dave and Karen Studebaker and as always I also join the Liberty Grove Software party. Wearing to hats that week. Tuesday afternoon is the big Dynamics 365 launch. I think I will find a corner in the back to listen. I am not really good in big crowds of people. Tuesday evening is the welcome reception where I will be either at the ForNAV or LGS booth. Wednesday 7:45 AM – 8:45 AM The 3rd party dilemma Here you can hear my view on extensions! Just kidding Marko . In this session I will give an overview of how to evaluate ISV solutions from a perspective of future upgradabilty and mergability. We’ll talk about Web Services, Loose Coupling, Events and yes also about pros and cons of extensions. 2:45 PM – 4:00 PM MythBusters: Continuous updates and upgrades With NAV2017, is upgrading now really an oilchange, or was that a bit too enthousiastic. Together with Marc Allman and Andrew Good we will pass 21 statements about upgrades and either confirm them or bust the myth. 6:00pm – 7:00pm Book Signing with MVPs. Here Alex Chow , me and others who wrote books will sign copies. I will bring a limmited number of copies to buy. Thursday 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Are your upgrades regular? – The System Admin’s view Soren Klemmensen takes the lead as we will talk about how to implement cumulative upgrades and how to make changes in such a way that PowerShell helps you merging. It will be a challenge to do that without actually using it. We will talk about spagetti code and how to recognise it in your database. This will probably be the most technical deep dive session. 3:00 PM – 4:15 PM Stump the Experts: Dev best practices Win a prize if you have a question that nobody can answer. Kim Congleton has the lead and I am joined by Peter Zentner and Jeff Landeen. 4:45 PM – 6:00 PM Community Celebration and Microsoft Town Hall I seem to have a role here but unsure what. (Mark Rhodes… better be carefull dude). Evening – FastPath partytime!!!!! Friday Going home folks. Sorry but I cannot leave my wife and kids alone forever. Have to miss this day. Don’t search for me anywhere. Waste of time. Dynamics 365 Surprise Together with friends we will also announce a new initiative at NAVUG specially focussed on Dynamics 365. Let the show begin I am looking forward to a great week with friends and meeting interesting new people.
