As an MCT conducting Dynamics NAV courses regularly, it is a big mystery to me, that there are no official course materials for dynamics NAV courses. The MCTs more and more rely on homemade material which is getting to look more and more like a patchwork for each new version. We are using the Dynamics NAV 2013 material as the base for the course, but we have to deviate so much from the material due to new or changed functionality in the recent versions. The official course materials ended with Dynamics NAV 2013 and were replaced with the new on-line courses provided as videos on the learning portal. When I advertised the release of the on-line courses to the employees of a larger Dynamics NAV partner, I was told by the management, that their employees did not have time to sit and watch on-line videos for weeks at a time. You can say what you want about that attitude, but we are all faced with the fact, that the demands for a higher number of billable hours are increased every year. It is not all employees who - like I - spend around 30 hours per months of my spare time to investigate new stuff in the Dynamics NAV world. Also, people learn in different ways. I can watch a video and then reproduce the scenario on my own machine and thereby learn from it. But many others cannot do that. They require the traditional way: A fixed Course agenda Getting away from the daily tasks to focus on the material Course materials to bring home for later examination Labs to test the topics of the course An instructor who can elaborate and correct if something is not understood the first time and provide some real-life experience as well A certification to prove that they have actually understood the material I know, that I am not the only MCT who is faced with this problem, and I believe that every MCT solve this their own way, building their own material and course agendas. I’m sorry to say this, but this is a giant waste of our time. So back to the problem: How are we going to create unified courses with updated course materials and certifications to match. Well the certification part is dawning slowly. The Association of Dynamics Professionals (DynamicsPro.org) has started the process by creating a number of certifications for Dynamics NAV: NAV Core Application Setup NAV Core Installation and Deployment NAV Core Development Exam The exam specifications can be read here: https://www.dynamicspro.org/competency/certificationexams . This is the first step for a certification for Dynamics NAV consultants. What we need now is that the certifications are recognized by Microsoft and the Dynamics NAV partner community as the new standard on the market replacing the old Prometric exams. The next thing is to try to coordinate the efforts, that already has been made to create new courses and course materials for Microsoft Dynamics NAV and also to make sure that the course materials will match the certifications, so that a student that attend a Dynamics NAV course can end up with a relevant and recognized certification. Last December, I was asked to join the Credentialing council of DynamicsPro. I am honored by the request and I will do my best to coordinate the efforts to create new and updated Dynamics NAV courses as described above. So, if you have already made courses for the new versions of Dynamics NAV, or you would like to participate in making new courses, please do not hesitate to contact me on info@b-a.dk .
