Blog Post: The Following SQl error was unexpected: Invalid object name 'master.dbo.$ndo$srvproperty'.

I installed a new development server and a brand new MS SQL 2017 server. After installing all the NAV components to the NAV development server, I restored the demo database, run the script to add my AD user to NAV tables, started the service and tried to log in. Not so suprisingly, I received an error, but this time I had never seen it before. The error message is in the title and attached screenshot. After brief examination, I found out that this table is indeed missing from the NAV installation disk database backup. Luckily it is very easy to create: * Open the database with Development environment * File/Database, Alter * Integration tab, check "Save license in database" * select your license file, and press OK This fixed the issue for me. If you wonder about the script to access the database, I will post it in next blog.

Blog Post: How to access NAV 2018 database with RTC if you do not have user account set up?

This question has arisen for earlier versions many times, and as many times it has been answered as well. In the old times it was easy enough, just delete contents of some tables and voilá, you are in. After three-tier architecture things got a tad bit more difficult. My answer has been for a long time to use a T-SQL script to add my AD account to all relevant NAV tables so I can just start the RTC client and start using the new database conveniently. The original script is stolen from Anonymous commenter in Waldo's blog , and during the years I have added all the new fields that have been added to different user related tables during the years. I have also improved its functionality somewhat, so now it is safe to run multiple times without problems. Please find the script attached to this blog. //Edit 2017-12-28: added tags. Added script to use SQL2015 and later command SUSER_SID to get User SID//

Blog Post: Navision Stories – Some thoughts for 2018

$

We, human beings, like to think that we decide how things happen. We like to think that we contol our lives. Truth is otherwise. Life controls us and many decisions are influenced by dozens or hundreds of factors, small or large. This blog is called markbrummel.blog and last year I said I might even blog about my dog if I feel like it. This blog has nothing to do with NAV or Navision. I just contains a story. My grandfather, he is 89 years old, has a blog . He writes about things he think are important. Things he is affraid that if he does not write them down, people forget. For me, the year 2017 was the year that I resigned as an MVP at Microsoft. After 11 years and 3 months. The three months where an unintended bonus because Microsoft changed their rules about renewals. Microsoft changed a lot of things. A lot has changed since 2006 when I first got my MVP award. Did I decide to resign as an MVP? Off course I like to think so, but in reality dozens or hundreds of factors influenced my “decision” which led to the sitation today. I started blogging after I got my MVP award in April 2006. I was at TechEd in Boston (USA) and decided to write down wat I was experiencing on MiBuSo.com. Erik Ernst asked me to open a blog on his site and cross post there. The blog was born. My first blogs where about conferences and about NAV running on SQL Server. A title in august 2007 was “ Is Navision to stupid or is SQL to smart “. I also blogged about an issue in Navision version 4 SP 3. “ Update 6 for Navision 4.0 SP3: BE CAREFUL “. Back then I did not get emails or phonecalls from Microsoft after blogging. Do you remember searching on the internet using altavista.com? I used it until a collegue said there was this new thing called google that I should try. Nowadays I use DuckDuckGo.com. Times change. Blogging has become a marketing instrument. Just this week I got an email offering to pay me to mention a product in my blog and I don’t want to make it a secret that ForNAV also pays me to write for them although they don’t edit my text and it’s easy to write about a great product that is created by great people. Then there is twitter. Also founded in 2006. I find using it a lot of fun. You can share quick messages. Marketing people think it is a powerful platform and a lot of companies try to “manage” it. For example, if you loose your lugage after a flight and tag the airline you are very likely to be contacted and someone will at least try to make you feel happy again. The reason I went online and ended up on Mibuso and DynamicsUsers.ne t was curiousity about the future of the product. Back then the rumours about project “Green” were still strong. Many others had the same curiosity and quickly a group of online “friends” got together. A lot of them ended up as MVP. For many years we had a lot of fun together. It were the years when Microsoft was killing NAV and we knew we were in maintenance mode although none of that was ever officially acknowledged. Directions, now managed by Microsoft, started as a voice from north American partners against Microsoft. This was much more nessesairy in North America because GP was getting more attention from Microsoft management than NAV. Also Microsoft adivised AX as soon as you had offices in more than one timezone. The first time I went to Microsoft in Denmark must have been 2008 although I’m not 100% sure. Waldo, Daniel and I made it into a roadtrip. We gathered at my house and I believe we went in Waldo’s Volvo for about an 8 hours drive to Vedbaek. In this meeting I was first confronted with giving feedback and discussing about the product. We had a meeting with the Program Manager for the Page Designer. When asked for feedback I told him to please try to type a questionmark (‘?’) in a text field of a page to see what happened. This did not work and aparently none of the people who needed to know, knew that this was a feature. You can find the depreciation documented on MSDN . Years later I learned why we had that meeting with Microsoft, but that is another story for another time.

Thanks RockWithNAV & Mohana reply. Specifically I want to do the following : Is it possible to enforce a minimum sales quantity on a particular item in NAV when raising a Sales Order manually (not through the planning worksheet)? We have an item which we must sales a minimum of 15 units to our Customer (they will not accept the sales order with any quantities less than 15 units). Is this possible?

Have you considered using the US sales tax module? Not sure if it applies here, but typically the Sales tax module can also be (miss-)used for more complex vat setups. It's often more flexible.

then you should add this field on Item table and do the customization accordingly. Sales Price minimum quantity field has different functionality..

Hi Eric. , Although I checked it in IN version , there also they gave the functionality to cut GST on INvoice Base amount with one field so it was little bit difficult any how I completed the setup and updated using code but needs a harse testing for the same. Because VAT is calculated at run time. This was really achallenging job to update in W1 version of NAV.

Somebody should come up with this as an Extension/Add-On for the W1 version, sounds like a obvious business opportunity, as Microsoft surely will not handle this.

Unfortunately all the local companies seem to believe that it's all fine and they have it under control. So I am just waiting till April when the first fines start to get issued and people realize they need to fix it. Currently the fine is about $1,300 per error per invoice, so if you think especially in retail where thousands of invoices are printed, often with discounts and delayed delivery terms, there could potentially be millions of dollars in fines in April. So I think then maybe people will listen and be interested in a solution. It will be fun.

Hi Kurt, None of resorces, charge items, non stock items, items type=service or inventory value zero items can be used in Production BOMs. I would suggest to handle this as a routing. Set up a Work Center, set Unit Cost Calculation to Quantity and check mark Specific Unit Cost. Create calendar and add a proper Prod. Posting Group to it. Then use this Work Center in your Routing, setting the specific cost for different routings in the "Unit Cost Per" field. Hope this helps!

2017 was filled with news about cybersecurity, including phishing scams, ransomware and new attack methods.
